Assembly and Whānau Time
Every alternate Friday afternoon from 2.30 – 3 pm the whole school gathers in the hall for our weekly assembly. Our Year 6 students are responsible for hosting the assembly and others classes from across the school may present an item. These items are related to what they have been learning and could be sharing art work, sharing some writing they have written, playing instruments or even acting out a small play.
During assemblies new children are introduced and welcomed to Waimate Centennial. Children who have had birthdays are asked to come up on stage so the whole school can sing Happy
Birthday to them. Certificates and Standing Tall awards are awarded to those children who have been working well in their classrooms.
Parents are encouraged to come along and share in what has been happening within our school for the week.
We look forward to seeing you our assembly.
This year on alternating Fridays we have begun Whanau Group time. This is a way for all the children in the school through years 0-6 to engage with each other, get to know each other and increase the across school bonds. The children may get together and play games that focus on team building, create pieces of art or complete crafts. Whanau group time is a great way for us to develop our school values and supports the philosophy of tuakana teina (creating learning relationships between older and younger).
Parents/Whanau are most welcome to attend. You may just need to ask your child/children which classroom that they meet in.
